All of us at the Harbor Community Benefit Foundation, extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the bridge collapse.

We are with all of those impacted, the first responder teams that were involved in the search and rescue efforts and those now working on salvage and recovery.

The communities that are adjacent to ports and maritime facilities throughout the nation, are often inextricably connected to the port-related industries and activities. The rippling effects of this tragedy will be far reaching.

During these times of loss, we have an increased awareness of the dangers that port-related industries and activities bring to bear on workers, and the broader community. As part of the San Pedro Bay port complex, the largest industrial port in the United States and among the largest cargo ports in the world - we feel very close to this tragedy and our hearts go out to all of the families of those lost.

We renew our commitment to investing in the quality of life of communities impacted by port-serving industries and the related goods movement activities locally, across the nation and around the world.

Born in Durango, Mexico, and immigrating to the United States as a teenager, Laura Larquier has always harbored a deep desire to make a positive impact within her community. With over three decades of experience in various roles within nonprofits, she has dedicated her career to working alongside grassroots organizations, community members, and marginalized communities.

A recent graduate from California State University with a master’s degree in organizational management from the School for International Training, her expertise and passion for social change are invaluable assets to our team.

Plus, with family ties in Wilmington, she brings a strong connection to the local community.

HCBF is proud to announce the award of a $2 Million environmental grant to WattEV for the opening of its first EV charging station for electric heavy-duty cargo trucks, located at the Port of Long Beach.

The new charging depot supports WattEV’s growing efforts to electrify their trucking operations both to and from the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, known to support more than 40 percent of the nation’s containerized imports.
