Beautification of 2 acres of White Point Nature Preserve, facilitate youth involvement

Plant trees and shrubs in a native plant garden. Conduct 2 acre restoration project at the White Point Nature Preserve.

Earth Day celebration and volunteer clean up at the White Point Nature Preserve. Celebration included a ranger walk of the preserve, a lecture on native plants at the preserve, arts and crafts, and clean-up of shrubs and native plant garden.

The program will immerse students in a marine environment and introduce them to port-related impacts

To obtain more materials to create Ocean Discovery Kits for Park Western. With the kits, animal life forms indigenous to the local area are studied. The materials that would be used to create the Ocean Discovery Kits would help the students interact with actual or replica marine animals and plants.

Multi day field marine education excursion at Catalina Island

As a Marine Science Magnet, the project will be based around the impact of plankton on our environment (air quality, food chain, origination of most sea life), in the harbor, and the long term effects of ocean pollution. The main goal is for students to research and learn about plankton and their key role in the environment. Another goal is for the students to create, design, and manufacture their own 3-D model prototype of a plankton that will be tested for "drift-ability" in a water tank with a mock ocean current.

Support environmental engineering program, supply equipment and field trips

Construct a garden in a 1400 sqft space on campus

Students will plant and harvest raised beds at Rancho San Pedro’s Community Garden, which will beautify our communities, provide nutrition, and allow students to apply their understanding of local water supply issues and sustainable agriculture/design. Students will plan a fall outreach event at the garden and educate the community about garden maintenance. Students will study native plant restoration and agriculture at Vic & Bonnie Christensen Science Center. Students will reach out to the Senior Citizen Housing complex on 3rd Street in San Pedro to initiate balcony vegetable gardening. Classroom computers will be used for the research and assessment of solutions to impacts of Port activity.

Purchase microscopes and other equipment to engage high school students in educational topics related to Port impacts

Aquaculture at the Port for 60 students in grades 11 and 12

Continue to develop the GOAL program, coupling education with self management skills building and physical activity

Purchase five invasive respiratory machines to improve the quality of respiratory care provided to the COPD patients
